KyRID has been a very successful Affiliate Chapter of the National Registry of
Interpresters for the Deaf (RID). The KyRID Board is very strong. Each member
of the Board has a strength that compliments the others. KyRID has worked to
have annual Spring Conferences with a variety of topics and nationally known
presenters. In 2000 KyRID was the host chapter of the RID Region III
Conference, held in Louisville. This conference is one of the most successful
conferences in Region III history. Thanks in part to that successful
conference, KyRID has financial success that helps us provide services to our
members.
What can KyRID do for you?
KyRID is a membership-driven organization. The sole purpose for the organization
is to serve the variety of needs in the community. In order to do that, we need
you, the member. With member involvement, KyRID can be very strong and
successful. There are many options for involvement including attending
conferences and workshops, as well as servin gon committees and the Board. It
is easy to get involved, just let someone on the Board know you are interested.
We can help you find your place in the organization so you can make a
difference.
How to become a member:
It is easy to become a member of KyRID. Just fill out the membership application
online to start the application process or download
the application and send the membership dues to our Secretary. That's it. Not
rocket science, right! Once your membership application and dues are received
your new membership card will be mailed directly to you.
So you get the membership card, the quarterly newsletter, reduced registration
rates for Region III Affiliate Chapter sponsored workshops and conferences, but
you want more. OK. You also have the opportunity to apply for the Norma Lewis
Scholarship. Each year a KyRID member is awarded a financial sum to use for
professional development. That's right. You could use it to go to workshops,
conferences, trainings, etc. You got it...we pay you back for being a member.
Just fill out the application and wait for the check to come in the mail. It's
just that simple.
To our members:
Ok, the hard part is over: you've filled out and mailed in your membership
application and dues. But the membership card is not the only think you will
receive. No, no, no. You also will receive informative quarterly newsletters.
These newsletters are very important. I know you are asking, "Why are they
important?" The newsletter is just one of your keys to all that KyRID has to
offer: workshop listings, upcoming conferences, articles relating specifically
to Kentucky inerpreters and consumers, applications and deadlines for
scholarship opportunities, applications for membership renewals, and much more.
I know you can read your colleague's copy of the newsletter, but the newsletter
is not the only benefit offered.
KyRID Future Goals
There are many goals for the future of KyRID. With the involvement of the membership,
KyRID can continue to be a success. KyRID plans to recruit new members from the community,
regardless of certification, in order to have the networking and professional growth opportunities
all members want. Since Kentucky Licensure became a reality, KyRID has offered opportinities to all
those interested in becoming Licensed and those interested in maintaining Licenses.
